Hardware

A LiveScan system generally consists of a computer, a fingerprint scanner, and a driver license reader. The top three computer manufacturers are DELL, HP, and Lenovo while the top two fingerprint scanner manufacturers are Cross Match and Identix (representing 95+% of all LiveScan scanners in use today).  There are a few newer scanner manufacturers on the market as well; one particular worth mentioning is i3. Biometrics4ALL generally recommends DELL computers and Cross Match or Identix Scanner. i3 scanner is also recommended for particular usage. Software

In the technology world, companies that focuse on software development will generally outperform hardware focused companies when it comes to ease of use, flexibility, intuitiveness, and maintainability. The reason for that is because hardware and software requires a completely different set of operation disciplines, creativity, and process. Biometrics4ALL is a software technology company who focuses on only LiveScan applications, hardware integration, and related technologies such that the only thing we need from the scanner hardware is the image, and our software will do the rest.

Amount Of Maintenance

Not all scanner hardware are created equal, some require more maintenance than others. For example, a scanner surface can be made out of hardened glass which is the most scratch resistant and nearly no maintenance; while others are made from composite materials, silicon padding, or special coated surface. Scanner may have a single flat surface (simple wipe to clean), while others may have split or roller surface. All of these maintenance actions are relatively simple on their own; however, when they become a regular event, they can be frustrating and costly; or worse, not performed, which may result in sub-par images.

Distributors vs Manufacturers

Some of the vendors "resells" other manufacturer's software "as is". Biometrics4ALL is NOT a distributor; we are the manufacturer of the LiveScan software. This is a critical factor because as the manufacturer, we have full control over how quickly we can add Brochure, make improvements, and create new applications utilizing the latest technology.
